DFHS Mission… to preserve and display the unique history of the fishing industry of Delta and its important connection with the Fraser River estuary

John Stevens mending gill net :: DFHS.caFOUNDERS OF THE DELTA FISHING HERITAGE SOCIETY (DFHS) met in 2009 as a group of pioneers and pioneering families who were interested in the history of the commercial fishing industry in Delta, as well as the symbiotic relationship and ecological importance of the lower Fraser River estuary to fish, bird and fauna habitat.

The Society is pursuing the idea of establishing a museum that would display the rich heritage of Delta from the beginning of aboriginal subsistence fishing to present-day commercial fisheries. This museum to serve as an educational center while presenting the history and heritage of Delta’s fishing industry.

Currently DFHS has undertaken a project to restore the Persian Fisher, a historic wooden Fraser River gillnetter that will be placed on public display upon completion. Location of this placement is yet to be determined after consulting the community of Delta.
