FUNDRAISING IS CRITICAL to supporting projects that the Delta Fishing Heritage Society (DFHS) takes on… one such project is restoration of the Persian Fisher, a classic Fraser River gillnetter, circa 1930s.
With the support of generous donors, volunteers, funding organizations and government, DFHS has made steady progress on raising funds to cover the costs associated with the acquisition, conservation, restoration and preservation of the Persian Fisher. Once a suitable site in the Delta community has been selected and approved for displaying the refurbished gillnetter, a protective structure needs to be built to protect the boat from the elements.
Since the inception of DFHS, a much larger project has been ‘waiting in the wings’… an Interpretive Centre on the Fraser. Still very much in the exploratory stages, this ‘dream’ will require significant funding and support from all stakeholders in the community of Delta.
Projects like the Persian Fisher and the Interpretive Centre all take time, money, persistence and patience to see such projects through from concept to completion.
The avenues for fundraising are many with proceeds being channeled into a central fund with the DFHS Board determining what receives funding and when. The Society has hosted dinners, dances or music concerts together with silent auctions to raise funds. With the COVID pandemic placing restrictions on public gatherings, online auctions are seen as an excellent means of raising funds for DFHS.
If you’re interested in supporting DFHS financially or by volunteering your time, please contact the Society.
